ÎçҹѰ»¨ receives nearly 2,000 backpacks, $90k+ worth of student supplies from donors
Members of the Saheli Foundation, pictured with staff from the district's Advancement Office, donated dozens of backpacks this summer for students in need ahead of the 2025-26 school year. Through various donations from community partners, non-profits, organizations and individuals, the district received close to 2,000 backpacks and more than $90,000 worth of student supplies.
Summer fundraisers, donation drives and the boundless generosity of our communities led to donations of nearly 2,000 backpacks and more than $90,000 worth of student supplies, helping to prepare thousands of ÎçҹѰ»¨ and White Rock families for the 2025-26 school year.
“The response from the community was inspiring,” said Laura Lukey, manager of Grants & Community Engagement with the district’s Advancement Office. “We had so many different calls and so many people wanting to help. It really shows that the community recognizes the importance of education.”
Ahead of the school year, the district anticipated a greater need for school supplies, with requests from more than 100 schools for students in need. The response from our communities filled that need with binders, pencils, pens, rulers, markers and more, with supplies being distributed to almost every school in the district.
“That call to action really invited in so many various community donors, from organizations to non-profits to individuals,” said Lukey. “We're so grateful that community members got the chance to see behind the scenes and be included in supporting the potential in every student.
“It is more than filling a backpack, it’s giving students the essentials they need to succeed from day one.”

With the seasons changing and temperatures getting colder, many students and families are in need of weather-appropriate clothing and basics such as food and hygiene items this time of year.
“We’re wanting to make sure our students are set up appropriately with jackets, boots, gloves,” said Lukey. “It’s happened where students come to school wearing running shoes that get soaked or sandals and we want to make sure that they’re set up right.”
